Samsung official announcement: cut off the supply of LCD panel at the end of the year, accelerate the shift to QD display

Samsung display shut down the LCD production line ahead of time. On March 31, Cui Zhoushan, director of Samsung display large business department, informed LCD customers by email that all LCD product supply would be terminated by the end of December 2020 in order to accelerate the shift to QD display business.

Cui Zhoushan pointed out in the email that due to the severe depression of LCD in recent years, the operation of large-scale business departments had a large-scale deficit. In order to get rid of the current business crisis and improve the competitiveness of large businesses, it is decided to terminate the supply of all LCD products by the end of December 2020, so as to accelerate the transition to QD display business.

According to Robin, an analyst at Ruto, the outbreak has accelerated the pace of Samsung display shutting down its LCD production line. Samsung display originally planned to close only l8-2-1 in 2020. However, affected by the epidemic situation, the deterioration trend of TV LCD market is more and more obvious. Samsung display decided to close l8-1-2, l8-2-2, l7-2 in advance, and even decided to withdraw from Suzhou 8.5 generation line project.

Robin further pointed out that the Samsung display Suzhou 8.5 generation line may have to be delayed until 2022 due to some other terms with the government. In 2022, Samsung display will completely withdraw from the TV LCD market.
