Low output of crimpable OLED TV panel! Korean panel manufacturers worry about alternative materials

According to industry sources, LG display seems to use a thin glass substrate with a thickness of less than 0.2mm to make a crimpable panel. Due to the fragility of the glass substrate, the output of LGD crimpable OLED panel is reduced, and the potential loss rate is also high.

It is reported that LG display originally planned to launch 65 inch 4K crimpable OLED TV panel in 2019, but the final release time was postponed to this year. The monitor manufacturer is looking for a low volume solution.

According to the report, there are two solutions to the vulnerability of glass substrates. One is to replace glass with polyimide substrate to achieve higher flexibility and lighter weight; the other is to lay a layer of transparent polyimide (PI) or ultra-thin glass (UTG) on the original glass substrate. But experts point out that the high heat released during panel manufacturing will affect the transparent PI. Therefore, it is considered to be a more realistic way to completely switch to polyimide film.
